I have the right words

It is important to pay attention to the power of our words. Yesterday, we discussed how good responses can help us avoid being pressured. We also identified certain characteristics of the words spoken by Jesus when faced with coercion. He spoke words that prevented further pressure, protected him, and were true (John 11:1-7).

Today, God says, He is willing to give us the exact words to speak, the exact things to say, and the perfect words to speak on time and in a timely fashion.

In Psalms 81:10, He says, "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt; open your mouth wide, and I will fill it."

Proverbs 16:1 states, "The preparations of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD."

Matthew 10:19-20, Jesus reminds us, "But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you."

This is the season for precision in our words. God's window for us to have the perfect words to speak is open. Go ahead and take advantage of it.

The Bible shows us one more beautiful gain of speaking the right words.

James 3:2 (NKJV)

2 For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.

To bridle simply means to control. To bridle means to constrain. This means with perfect words, you can control your body.

No wonder Proverbs 4:20-22 states, "My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh."

The Lord has opened the door of appropriate words to us this January.

Take this opportunity to pay attention to the words God gives you to speak, incline your ears to those sayings, keep them always before you, and in the midst of your hearts. They will be life and health to your flesh.
